Cincinnati Kidney Walk Volunteers Needed!
National Kidney Foundation, Cincinnati.  Call 513-961-8105.
Volunteer tasks include assisting with event set-up and tear down, registration, kids area, course directors/cheerleaders, ice & water, etc... If you would like to volunteer, if possible please let us know prior to May 22nd. Including set-up and tear-down we have need from 6am - 2pm, if you are only available for a portion of that time please indicate when you will be volunteering. If you are bringing any additional volunteers with you, please provide their names. Finally, if you could let us know your shirt size so we can try and accommodate everyone the day of the event it is appreciated. It is a particularly exciting year as the Cincinnati Kidney Walk moves to Downtown Cincinnati on the Riverfront. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is partnering with us to be the Walk Kick-off location. The date of the walk is June 3rd with check-in beginning at 8:30 am and the Walk starting at 10 am.

Truck Assistant

Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) of Louisville is looking for individuals who would like to volunteer their time and open their home to become therapeutic foster parents. Foster parents are needed to provide safety, support and stability to youth during times when their biological families are unable to meet their needs. SAFY is a private, not for profit therapeutic foster care agency. Our focus is to provide homes and treatment for youth who have been traumatized by abuse, neglect, and abandonment. We are especially in need of foster parents who are willing to work with older children and teenagers, who are traditionally more difficult to place in our community. We do not discriminate – we are open to every type of family who is willing to take the time to make a difference in a child’s life!

Tutor kids,ages 6-9, at City Heights in Covington for an hour a week in reading and math as part of the Housing Authority of Covington's Summer Camp. Tutoring is done one-to-one or in small group sessions. Volunteers who tutor commit to one day a week for the four week program.

Giving Fields Planting

The Giving Fields is a means for Freestore Foodbank to provide fresh produce to our partner food pantries in Northern Kentucky. Located in Melbourne, Kentucky, Giving Fields volunteers planted, harvested and distributed over 60,000 pounds of fresh produce in 2011 to feed NKY neighbors in need. Volunteers will ensure that transplants and seeds are safely tucked in for the growing season, using proper placement, plant spacing, and seed depth according to each variety's specifications. Once harvested, all fresh produce is distributed to partner Northern Kentucky food pantries. A typical box is 19”Lx15 ½” Wx9 ½ H and holds 6 Power Packs. Help the Freestore Foodbank maintain a positive image and relationship with Power Pack sites. Returning empty boxes and signed delivery tickets to warehouse. Scheduling volunteer shift. Arriving on time for volunteer shift. What is YMCA Mentoring? • One-on-one site based mentoring (meet only at a YMCA, school, or library). • Mentors are able to take their mentee other places in the community if they choose, only after getting approval from their mentor coordinator. • Mentoring happens when you are available: after school, evenings, or weekends. • Youth and mentor meet once a week for 1 to 3 hours for 12 months. • Youth and mentor will perform at least 2 community service projects together. • Youth and mentor will explore decision making processes and career options. • Youth and mentor will work to develop plans and visions for youth’s future. Who does YMCA Mentoring Serve? • Our goal is to serve over 150 youth, ages 6-18, in Northern Kentucky. • Youth are being identified for enrollment through a variety of avenues: ? Schools (Bellevue, Newport, Dayton, Fort Thomas, etc). ? YMCA’S in the Northern Kentucky area including: The Campbell County YMCA in Fort Thomas, KY and Dayton YMCA Teen Center in Dayton, KY. Who are our Mentors? • An understanding adult who can listen, respect different points of view, empathize with a youth’s struggles, and enable their resilience and potential. • At least 23 years old and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. level education. What will be the impact of YMCA Mentoring? • Youth have the added influence of a positive adult that they feel connected to. • Youth have improved relationships with primary caregivers. • Youth improve grades and attendance in school. • Youth decrease school infractions (e.g. detention, suspensions, etc.). • Mentors feel an increased connectivity to the community in which they mentor. • Mentors feel a sense of belonging to the YMA Mentoring Program as a whole. How are Mentors Supported? • Mentoring Coordinators help plan activities, and provide resources, games, and materials for mentors and youth. • Mentor Coordinator will provide ongoing support for the relationship. • Monthly Mentor Support meetings (optional) Mentors and youth receive a complimentary membership to the YMCA! What is the process for becoming a Mentor? • Complete application and return it to your local YMCA branch or email it. • Complete orientation interview (1 hour). • Complete mentor training (15 hours and planned around YOUR schedule). • Pass a fingerprint security screen, background check, and reference check. Help a child succeed through education by tutoring your best subject. Tutors may volunteer at BHGH residential homes (in Walnut Hills or Finneytown) or BHGH's after-school program (in Walnut Hills). Scholars are tutored for a minimum of 90 minutes per week for one academic year. Grades range from third to 12th, in a variety of subjects. The after-school program runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. Residential home tutors are more flexible on weekdays.

Summer Camp Counselor

MDA offers a one-week camping session to children and young adults ages 6-17 who have muscular dystrophy or a related neuromuscular disorder. All of the participants have some degree of muscle weakness and need varying amounts of assistance depending on their condition...some just need a little help getting around, while others need almost total care. We recruit volunteers to help the campers get around the facility so that they may participate in activities such as swimming, sports, arts & crafts, etc. Volunteers may be called upon to push wheelchairs, assist with personal care and will be paired one-on-one with a camper. We look for volunteers who have a strong desire to give of themselves to ensure our campers have a safe and enjoyable camping experience. Volunteers will be paired with a camper that they feel comfortable caring for. Counselors will receive 160 hours of community service for this week-long volunteer opportunity. This year's camp is being held at Camp Campbell Gard in Hamilton, Ohio from Saturday June 30, through Saturday July 7, 2012. New counselors are required to attend camp volunteer training, which will be held the evening of Saturday June 30th This year's camp theme is "Everyday is a Holiday.".

Volunteers are needed to sit at the front desk from 3:30 - 6:00. Front Desk Attendants will let people into the building and assist in directing people to the appropriate location. Volunteers can volunteer for the whole period or just for a 1/2 hour time block. It's up to you!
